Mac users who upgrade to Final Cut Pro v10.4.8 macOS TNT can now work with 4K video projects in the application's new high-resolution format at up to 60 frames per second (fps). To be crystal clear, it is not possible for FCPX 10.0 or earlier versions of FCPX 10 to render 4K video in an offline edit sequence at this frame rate without the use of third-party hardware and/or software, such as Blackmagic Design DaVinci Resolve 11 or Apple Motion 5.x - 8. x. FCPX 10 (v10.0 - v10.4.7) only allows the offline edit of 4K video at 30 fps (we're not sure why, but this is Apple's limitation/restriction/rule). It should be noted that if you try to edit 4K video in FCPX 10 at 60 fps, the software will automatically convert the video to 30 fps for editing purposes - so always try first to see if you can achieve your desired result first with FCPX 10 before using DAVE or Motion to generate 60 fps versions of your 4K material for editing purposes. FCPX 10's 4K export format is a UHD Apple ProRes 422 cinema 4:4:4 format at up to 60 fps with a resolution of 4096 x 2160 pixels. The export preset in FCPX 10 requires a "high quality" (HQ) video quality setting (and an appropriate GPU) to allow the application to create the UHD export preset. If you wish to edit and/or share your 4K projects in FCPX 10, then you need to set up both the source and destination formats correctly before beginning your project and export workflow. This can be accomplished using various presets and/or settings in either FCPX's earlier version (v10.0 - v10. 3.3) or in newer versions of FCPX (v10.4.8 - v10.x.x). There is no workaround for FCPX 10 when it comes to editing 4K video at 60 fps in an offline edit sequence, other than using third-party hardware and/or software, such as Blackmagic Design DaVinci Resolve 11 or Apple Motion 5.x - 8.x, for the rendering and export of 4K material in 60 fps (with either a UHD or HDTV video quality setting) to be imported into FCPX 10 for editing purposes. Final Cut Pro X 10.4.8 is a free update for users with Final Cut Pro X 10.4.7, and includes the following: • Ability to export movies in the new UHD 4K format with 4:2:2 color from the Share menu, plus support for exporting AVC-I and HEVC codecs from Compressor. • Fixes an issue where using the Share to Apple Devices option could fail when correct permissions were not set on a shared folder. • Fixes an issue where custom buttons on a third-party external keyboard would stop working after restarting Final Cut Pro X. cfa1e77820
